Okay so as I mentioned on a previous entry, I bought and installed a Tower 200. It’s actually a great machine and I get a good overall workout on it. I planned to do a video showing me using it but haven’t been able to set it up with my son yet.

So I videotaped myself working out on the heavybag instead. I still make the point about my age (56) and the fact that I have a number of health problems. That doesn’t stop me from working out.

So all the folks out there who read this and are overweight…stop the excuses and find something that you can do everyday in terms of working out. The fat ain’t going to disappear by itself. I also recommend a six meal a day…let’s not call it a diet though. The first three letters in diet are-die. You need to burn your fat off and that happens when your stomach (furnance) is working on a small meal. No affiliate links in this post but if you cannot do it yourself, head into one of my post about fitness and health and look at a great program, like the one in “Any cardio is better than sitting on the couch.”

See you later,

Bodyweight exercises are for anyone who wants to get fit, build functional muscle strength and not worrying about getting injured while lifting heavy weights.

There are groups of people that bodyweight exercises are a must for. Anyone who is in martial arts, security/policing and of course the military…should be doing bodyweight exercises.

Most martial arts instructors will include a range of bodyweight exercises for their students. In particular those studying a martial art that is grappling or includes grappling will most likely be doing partner bodyweight exercises. Some of these will include firefighter carries and squats, wheelbarrows and medicine ball techniques.

The martial artist should also include a home version of bodyweight exercises and stretching to be able to perform grappling situations, which require functional strength like throws or getting out of being mounted on the floor.

Although the police are well equipped with handcuffs, batons and firepower…most of the situations they find themselves in, require self-defense and the ability to control people. However rather than going through some of the situations cops find themselves in, let’s talk instead about security guards.

Depending on where you live in the world, security guards are either well equipped to handle physical confrontations or severely lacking in such. In countries, such as Canada, it is not unusual to find security guards without handcuffs or even batons.

Security guards, no matter where they live, should be engaging in bodyweight exercise to build functional strength and endurance. When encountering a physical threat, the guard may be on their own or have one partner…not multiples like the police force. Physically controlling an individual for any length of time takes strength and cardio. If a security guard is lacking in those areas, they may quickly lose control of a situation and find themselves in peril.

Bodyweight exercises can be done at home in a small room if necessary. Finding a group of exercises that can be performed…the security guard will be able to strengthen and tone the body. Push-ups, squats and pull-ups in a door frame are just three of the basic bodyweight exercises that can be done.

Bodyweight exercises are great for any individual. Need to lose weight, trim and tone. Start doing bodyweight exercises, eat six small meals a day and drink plenty of water. There is no need for an expensive gym, buying into a weight watching program where you pay cash for food. Everything you need, is in your own home. Doing bodyweight exercise speeds up your metabolism to burn fat. By eating six small meals a day, you are constantly burning fat. Think of your body as a wood burning stove. To keep warm, you need to keep feeding it logs. Eating six small meals, spaced through-out the day, keeps your internal furnace burning and guess what it’s burning. If you said “fat” you are correct and on your way to a healthier, happier you.

One of the guys that I had over to the house for some P.P.C.T has taken to calling me Old Fat Ninja. I kinda like it:) However the “fat” part may have to go.

I watched the spot on the Fight Network (my number one channel) featuring Randy Couture. Yes he sold me on it. However fair warning, if you buy the system and expect to see Randy on the instructional dvd, he is not doing it. They have another guy that is pretty good. A little intense but nonetheless, he really gets you going.

Now, you are supposed to attach this to your door. You know the slogan, “you gotta door, you gotta gym.” After Youtubing it, I found out some guys were putting on the door, the same way the door opens??? Guys, if you do this, it’s gonna pull your door off. It goes on the front and you close the door, the door frame holds it in place. Now it won’t work if you have a carpet, unless you want to shave some off the bottom of the door, so that the steel plate doesn’t get held up on the carpet.

What I did was this:

I got some 2X4 and some oak 1×5. I drilled the 2×4 into the 2×4′s behind the wall and then put 2 of the 1X5′s together and drilled them into the 2X4. To add strength, I added a piece of 2X4 overtop of the ends of the 1×5 and drilled them into the first layer of 2×4.

Now my 17 year old is going to do Youtube video next week of our little workout area and show me working out on the Tower 200. We just got the Blackberry playbook, so it will be a learning lesson for us, shooting a quick home movie.

Here are the reasons that I making the video.
* I am now 56 years old.
* I used to be in great shape in my 30′s. You know, the 16 inch arms and well developed chest. Not anymore.
* I want to see, how much muscle can I gain back by using a Tower 200.
* I had to stop martial arts at age 50 due to a variety of things, arthritis, d.d.d in my neck and lower back. Actually a new MRI shows the discs in my back are pretty much toast and one is bulging.
* After quitting martial arts, I went from 204lbs up to 234lbs.

So here is the plan, lose weight, gain back some muscle and hopefully some of the guys and gals who
are out of shape will read this and get off the couch.

Let’s face it. If a 56 year old guy with a bunch of health issues can workout and lose weight, so can you.

I’m going to do a series of blog posts documenting my workouts and what effect it has on my body.
I’ll apologize ahead of time for two things. Video is going to basic, very basic. I have no video skills.
Secondly, try not to laugh too hard when you see my carpentry attempt concerning the Tower 200.
As McCoy would say to Kirk, “Damn it Jim, I’m a copywriter, not a carpenter.”

Now here is the first update:

The first time I used the Tower 200, I had to stop after the first exercise to catch my breath. It combines a cardio workout with muscle toning. You are doing things like a lunging punch while using resistance. On day three, I made it through the first six exercises without stopping. The dvd is broken into 4 segments. I have been doing the 11 minute work-out. Today after I finished the 11 minute work-out, I changed resistance bands, which is a snap…really. I did arm curls, took a break and then changed to the strongest bands and did a final set. I finished off my workout by putting on the MMA gloves and doing shadow boxing for 5 minutes and then 15 minutes of hitting the bag. No kicks as I am working on my stretching before I get back into kicks and knees.

Well that is it for today. I did the review for you and there is no link to click, as a matter of fact, I haven’t looked yet to see if they offer an affiliate program. If you want to try it out, you can order it online or go to one of those “As Seen On TV.” That’s where I picked up mine after trying to convince the really cute Asian girl to demo it for me. My kid rolled his eyes. Dad’s a dork:)

Some of you may be…just like me. You love working at home and are always looking for ways to add to your income.

Over the next five posts, I’m going to release 20 tips for martial arts business ideas.
Now if you find after reading them, that it’s too much work for you, then I suggest you
go into the niche website arena like I did. I currently have 50 niche websites, that have
nothing to do with martial arts. There is money to be made in niches. You can take the lazy
way, by going here:

http://trafficsmashers.com/links/3575

Just copy and paste the link into your browser if it’s not showing clickable on your computer
I highly recommend Devon and remember if you decide to purchase, I may or may not get a commission.

Here’s the first of your 20 tips:

1) You could sell ab crunches and jackknife sit-up books. Describe your exercise products with words like ‘easy exercises.” Bodyweight exercises are very popular now. I did a series of plr bodyweight exercises.

2) You might make ab twists and jogging equipment. Illustrate your diet items with phrases as ‘get in shape.”

3) You can market ad benches and jump rope tools. Define your fitness merchandise with sayings like ‘work out.”

4) You should generate aerobic and jumping jacks online videos. Express your workout services with terms as ‘boost energy.” Post not only on Youtube but other video sites. For easy submits, use Tubemogel.com

5) You may promote aerobic box steps and jumping lunges courses. Detail your nutrition products with remarks like ‘get fit.”

6) You could create air bikes and jumping squats machinery. Advertise your exercise items with descriptions as ‘look good .” I know a lot of guys who make their own equipment but don’t even try to sell it.

7) You might advertise aerobic steps and kickbacks DVDs. Explain your diet merchandise with wordage like ‘get conditioned and fit quickly.”

You can publicize ankle circles and kicks ezines. Market your fitness services with expressions as ‘improve diet .”

9) You should suggest arm and leg lifts and knee circles supplies. Paint your workout products with wording like ‘exert yourself-see the change.”

10) You may endorse arm circles and knee pushups CDs. Copywrite your nutrition items with language as ‘ant–aging.”

11) You could distribute arm stretches and knee ups eclasses. Promote your exercise merchandise with adage like ‘train yourself and save money.”

12) You might auction back extensions and knee/hip raise ebooks. Portray your diet services with representations as ‘look thinner and fit.”

13) You can publish back stretches and lat pulldowns magazines. State your fitness products with words like ‘warm up.” Capture email addresses and build a list to sell to repeatedly.

14) You should sell balance and leg abductions online audios. Term your workout items with phrases as ‘gain stamina.”

15) You may make ball back extensions and leg curls membership sites. Sketch your nutrition merchandise with sayings like ‘tone up.” There are free courses online on how to build membership sites which are profitable.

16) You could market band and leg extensions ecourses. Present your exercise services with terms as ‘gain endurance.”

17) You might generate barbell and leg lifts classes. Relate your diet products with remarks like ‘trim down.” Start a we come to your home or business class. Remember to use graphics on your vehicle to promote yourself.

18) You can promote basic lifts and leg press machines newsletters. Label your fitness items with descriptions as ‘gain agility.” Get some affiliate links to great products to put inside your newsletter.

19) You should create bench and leg presses accessories Depict your workout merchandise with wordage like ‘body building.”

20) You may advertise bench presses and leg raises devices. Character your nutrition services with expressions as ‘lose fat and look great.”

So there you have some ideas to think over. What? It hurts too much to think about it? Then grab
Devon’s Webcopycat system, where he does all the work for you.

There is a short story written by the Grandmaster of Science Fiction, Arthur C. Clarke; entitled, “The Nine Billion Names of God.”

In the story, a group of Tibetan Monks are trying to figure out exactly how many different names of God there are. Not satisfied to work on this the old fashioned way anymore, in 1967, they hire a group of scientists, to lug a huge computer up to their monastery.

The gist of the story is that the computer determines that there are exactly nine billion names in the world, that actually refer to God. What happens when the computer comes up with this number…is that God’s purpose is served and the world ends…with all the stars burning out, just like light switches being turned off.

Now of course I am not suggesting that there are nine billion names for Kung-Fu. However Kung-Fu has produced more styles than any other martial art. By googling, you find approximately 63,000 hits for Kung-Fu. From those hits, I found 25 different styles of Kung-Fu but there are probably more.

So where did Kung-Fu come from?? Well this is a topic that is debated a lot. Most people right away would say China of course. A small group would say India and its roots are from Kalari.

If you look at the time frame for when Kalari started, it is older than Kung-Fu and it’s theme is using animals postures for the movements.

History re-counts that an Indian Monk was wondering round the forest, when he spotted a fox that had caught a crane by the neck. Not willing to be dinner, the crane turned its long neck and pecked the fox in the eye to escape.

From that encounter, the monk developed the system of Kalari and incorporated the breathing style and yoga. As well, Indian fighters were aware of pressure points and used a trident spear with small balls on the end to strike nerve points on their foe, before moving in for the kill.

At some point in time the system was brought into China, most likely when an Indian Monk went to spread the word of Buddha.

Everyone knows the Shaolin monks learned Kung-Fu and probably found other animals, real and mythical to copy…like the dragon.

There are five main styles of Kung-Fu and everything else is an off-shoot of those styles.
Praying Mantis
Southern Shaolin
Hung Gar
Wing Chung
Choy Lei Fut

Kung Fu began and was passed from monk to monk, the family to family. The flowing style and use of animal fighting styles make it beautiful to watch. In the 70′s, I was captivated by a new show, called “Kung Fu.” I watched every week as did millions of others, glued to the box to watch this “new” fighting style. Kung Fu the show inspired millions to take up martial arts and I was no different.

However I was saddened to learn at a much later date, that Bruce Lee was supposed to be the star but Hollywood felt that North America would not respond to an Asian in a lead role. I hate that we had such negative feelings back then. How far we have come but it’s only in the last few years.

I remember the funny looks my wife and I got, back in Halifax Canada in 1992. She is a beautiful Vietnamese girl. I always liked to think, the reason people stared at us back then…was the fact that I am six foot two and she is four foot ten.:) We went on to have a son and I remember how upset she used to get when she took him out for walks and people commented on how beautiful he was and how she must be the nanny.

Well at the time of this writing, that little baby is 17 and is five foot eleven and weighs 220lbs. He has a black belt in taekwondo and a yellow belt in combat j.j.

Hope you enjoyed the story..included the personal history.

Regards,

If the answer to the title…is a big YES-then you may be interested in my newest service:

                                   Ghostwriting and Articles

Yes as many of you know, I am a freelance copywriter with a major passion for martial arts and mixed martial arts. My first website in 2005 was later converted to this blog. I’ll be doing a re-print of one of my old articles in the next post…for those who have not read it.

Now I recently launched a new site, where I am offering ghostwriting and article services. As a dojo owner who has a blog, you may not be interested in that or may not have the cash to hire a copywriter.

However I don’t want to leave you out, so this is what you can do. Book mark my new site:

http://www.copyghostwriter.weebly.com

On that site, you will find a Paypal button where you can buy PLR articles (seven high quality articles for six bucks!) The first set of articles up, is on stress and before the end of Sept/2011, you will see a pack of articles on bodyweight exercises. I will continue to add articles, some of which are not in your niche but I urge you to check back often. There will be article packs on martial arts exclusively.

Now finally, that site is a free site which I am testing out the service on. If all continues to go well, then I will open a paid site where people can buy and download.

Right then, see you soon and by the way check out the post on Kung Fu!!

Regards,
James

Hi Folks,

Yep, I know. You are saying (if you read my posts) that Jimmy has a lot on his plate. Why Kindle? Well the truth is that I have written a couple of novels (not published) for young adults. I have a couple adult novels in various stages and have had some contact with agents and publishers. But getting a novel published the regular way is akin to winning the lottery. Yes, its that hard.

So Kindle popped up on my radar and I thought what the hell! I had two small non-fiction ebooks already done, so I put them up on Kindle, you’ll see the links below. I am pounding away on the draft of my adult novel which is police thriller/martial arts and once it’s done I put it up on Kindle.

Now, my Kindle ebook on midnight security and bouncing, should be of interest to anyone who is in to any type of fighting. Yes there are some recounts of fights that I had in the hotel biz, plus encounters with bizarre individuals and of course prositutes. I mean whats a hotel without those gals, right!

I am also very proud of the fact, that my martial arts experience and courses that I took in PPCT, had an impact on someone, other than me kicking the crap out of them:)

I had a couple young guys come out to the house late last November to learn some fighting skills for the streets. I was kinda surprised these guys wanted to learn from me. I admit to due to health issues, I am out of shape big time and I am 55 although I look 20 years younger than that.

Well one of the guys took my advice and got into a regular dojo…where he instantly became a training animal. One of the trainers took him aside the other day and told him that he was a complete natural at this stuff and if he wanted to, he could in a few years perhaps turn pro in mma or muay thai. Now I have seen this guys videos of him training and yes he does have some real ability. Now he has to decide if he has the HEART. I think he does and hope to see him in the UFC someday. Hey, maybe I could get some free publicity for my blog:)

Okay now for Kindle. I am going to copy/paste my Kindle profile and links below. The books are priced at way less than a cup of large coffee, so please buy them and leave me an awesome review. I’ll love you for it. Okay maybe love is a bit strong:)

Learn how to make Youtube videos that make marketing your services or business, a breeze. Special trick to make Google love your blog!

MY KINDLE PROFILE:

“James W. Brown is like most great freelance copywriters. He held a number of very different jobs…didn’t play well in the corporate sandbox-so working for himself seemed to be the best solution.

Besides cleaning sewers for a living, which is actually a fun job..James worked for over 20 years as a security officer and part-time bouncer.

James started writing poetry in 1973 and then moved to short stories and fiction. However it wasn’t til he discovered Kindle, that James had found a way to present his writing without having to jump through hoops like a traditional writer.

When James is not busy freelancing, he works on writing fiction. An avid reader, James feels it’s possible he has read 10,000 plus books so far and it takes him 2.5 hours to read a regular novel.

James Lee Burke, Barry Eisler and John Sandford, are like writing Gods to James and he has been known to re-read a book 20 plus times.

Very active in social media, James plans to continue freelance copywriting, even when his first fiction novel on Kindle…makes it to the million seller status. Oh it’s true…James has definite plans to market his book until it’s number one. James is open to contact from readers”

First of all, my apologies for not keeping up on this blog. Fact is I have over 60 websites and I had 8 blogs. So I have deleted a few blogs because as a one man show…it can be tough. I’m first and foremost a freelance copywriter.

Now onto Fedor. If you are like me, you are highly disappointed in his last three fights. You can trace his downfall back to his Andre. A fight. Yes he knocked Andre out but you could see he was having some issues with getting hit himself.

The question is, what does his team do next? He is supposed to fight in Russia, so will they bring in some slouch for him punch out?

As far as I know, Fedor does not train like most MMA guys, he only uses the same old folks who have been around him for years. It really might be better if Fedor just cut all his ties and say…move to GSP’s camp for awhile or something like that.

I would love to see Fedor come roaring back in 2012 and then move back into Zuffa. He won’t admit it but he has to grind on him that Dana thinks he is over rated and his management team sucks. If I was him, at age 34…well I’d set some pretty lofty goals for myself and getting into the UFC and fighting for the 205lb title might be the best option.

What do you think?

It’s sad but true. I got on the hamster wheel and kept going round and round. I should have known better. Well after about six months of adding new blogs and trying all the “push button” software programs that are crap, I just got lost in what I was doing. I had taken on too much stuff to do.

So I just stopped blogging and Tweeting. My four twitter accounts sat neglected. I took a hard look at the blogs I had up and running and the domains registered but not yet converted to blogs and knew something had to change.

So I deleted a bunch of blogs recently and then I took a long hard look at what I really wanted for me. I’ve been writing since I was 16 and I am now 55. I have finished novels gathering dust in the drawer, never having seen a publisher. I had books and books full of ideas that have never seen the light of day.

So I decided to make a list of what I was going to do and keep it short. Here it is:

1. Continue freelance copywriting.
2. Continue with blogging but cut it down to 3 blogs rather than 20.
3. Continue to write fiction and non-fiction. Publish it through Kindle.

So the first thing on my list to was to finish up an ebook I started two years ago at the suggestion of
my copywriting buddy Dave, who is also into martial arts and kettle bell training. I had told Dave a few
stories about some of the strange things that happened to me on midnight shifts as a hotel security guard…as well as some of the fights and near fights. Dave encouraged me to write an ebook saying that it would definitely sell.

So I sat down and finished it up..putting it up on Kindle for sale at $1.05. A very reasonable price. Then I bought an ebook from Kindle by one of the guys who has had amazing success and had something like 1 million downloads in five months and most of his fiction books are priced at .99

This was an important for me, because of course I have unfinished novels and the one the excites me the most is my martial arts/crime thriller. I am happy to say that I have been working hard on it and expect to have it completed by the end of July 10th. Then Dave has agree to proof it for me as he is experienced as a copy editor and proofer. I really look forward to getting this book up on Kindle as it is the first in a planned series.

So there you have it. Now I want you all to do me a favour. If you notice I am slacking off, doing posts on martial arts/mma and fitness, drop me a note via my copywriting site and tell me to get off my ass before you come over to kick it. You can reach me at http://www.livewire-copywriter.com

Have a great first day of summer.

Here is the link to my ebook, go buy it and if you hate it, email me and I’ll send you two free pdf public domain ebooks on martial arts. If you love it, well then leave me a glowing review at amazon.

Thanks.
James
